Spotlight | Joe Mamma Cycles

If you’ve cycled in Ottawa or Gatineau, you’ve likely crossed paths with Joe Mamma Cycles in the Glebe. What you may not know is that owner, Jose Bray, has called Carleton Place home for almost a decade and recently opened a second shop in the heart of this growing community.

Jose opened his first bike shop in the Glebe 19 years ago. When he and his wife were ready to start a family, they bought a house in Carleton Place because they loved the area. The couple is passionate about cycling and you can often find them riding the trails with their two sons.

Joe Mamma has a huge selection of bikes and cycling accessories, and the friendly staff take pride in being experts on all things related to cycling. They can answer all your questions, helping you find which bike and helmet are right for you. They also have a wide range of accessories from paniers and baskets to shoes and socks.

In recent years cargo bikes have experienced an uptick due to their convenience. “The ‘Wike’ cargo bike is a great way to get around with your young ones. It’s a bike that converts to a stroller when you get to where you are going,” Jose says.

Joe Mamma’s is one of the largest retailers of BMX bikes and parts in the country. The staff includes talented, professional riders who impart their love of the sport on the community. They give back to the communities that have embraced them by getting involved with local programs like Trips for Kids. Also, if you have your tires topped up at the shop, the fee goes directly to CHEO.

They don’t just sell bikes, parts and accessories - they also fix them! With a full repair shop, they can fix just about any bike out there.

The location of the new shop couldn’t be better. It sits on the edge of downtown with Carleton Junction park directly behind it. This park houses the pump track and skate park as well as the Ottawa Valley Recreation Trail, a paved biking and walking path that goes through town and beyond. This is the perfect place to start when deciding which bike is most suitable for you.

Head to the shop today to check out their selection or book a tune-up online. Follow them on Instagram and Facebook to keep up with special promotions and events.
